Gabriella Muscolo

Antitrust, Competition and Consumer Law

Determined and creative Gabriella likes to look to the future and beyond. Her professional experience has always been motivated by four principles:
  1. the enhancement of skills and specialisation;
  2. an international vocation;
  3. a tendency to deal with particularly innovative and future-oriented sectors;
  4. a multidisciplinary approach and a proclivity for teamwork and the creation of synergies.
Based on these principles, she has become, over the years, one of the leading experts in antitrust law at national and international level, focusing her attention also on the most rapidly evolving markets such as digital and pharmaceuticals. Her career has been remarkable for the challenges she has conquered: she joined the judiciary in 1985, specialising in commercial, competition and intellectual property law. From 2009 to 2014 she was the Italian member of the Enlarged Board of Appeal and today she is an alternate member of the Board of Appeal of the European Patent Office. From 2014 to 2021, she was Commissioner of the Italian Competition Authority, which she has chaired as Acting President from October 2018 to May 2019. She is the second woman in the history of the Authority to form part of the Board and the first woman to represent the Authority as Acting President. Since 2023 she is a member of the Commissione dei Ricorsi at the Ministry of Industry. She teaches on the LLM in Competition Law and Innovation at LUISS, Libera Università degli studi sociali Guido Carli, and since 2018 she has been a Fellow of King's College London. She has lectured at many Italian and foreign universities and in several European training programmes. She is a frequent speaker at conferences in Italy and abroad and has authored numerous publications on competition law and intellectual property in both Italian and English. In June 2021, she joined Franzosi Dal Negro Setti as a partner in the firm, dealing with antitrust law. Langueages spoken:
